In 1991, the privately owned First Corporate Shipping Ltd took over the port of Bristol from the Local Authority. With an enlightened approach to investing in people, technology and equipment the new management has achieved dramatic improvements in discharge performances, tonnage handled and operating results. Significant new business has been attracted to the port, which is now the only major UK port to employ a permanent workforce.
