How We Ensure The Quality Of Our Solid Fuel Products

We take full responsibility for the quality of all the products that we deliver. In the case of our own imported coal products, this starts right back at the mine of origin whether it is in China, Colombia, South Africa, Poland or any other country from which we import solid fuel products. Our own staff regularly travel to our suppliers' mines and work with our suppliers ensuring that our coal is selected from the best quality seams and that the suppliers' own quality control procedures are rigorously adhered to. Before shipment our coal is also inspected by our own monitoring staff at the load port. This is accompanied with independent laboratory analysis at load port, and ensures that all products loaded on board meet our strict quality criteria. Our shipping department will only engage ships of proven reliability and cleanliness of operations, ensuring there is no contamination of product en route. When the coal arrives at our Avonmouth Import Terminal it is again rigorously checked and analysed by independent laboratory.

Our coal products are then washed to remove all stone, shale and impurities and carefully screened to ensure correct sizing. This work is carried out by our own experienced work force using our own equipment under the supervision of our own management team. The washed and screened coal products are constantly monitored and analysed as produced to ensure consistency of both sizing and chemical / burning properties. We understand that consistency of performance and quality of burning characteristics are of utmost importance to all our customers, whether they are industrial users, retail coal merchants or domestic consumers. Any fuels that do not meet the strict criteria that we enforce are rejected and not made available to the market. All laboratories used by the Group are NAMAS approved coal analytical companies to ensure accurate and unbiased assessments of our solid fuel products.

Despite all of the above procedures, we also believe in the old adage that "the proof of the pudding is in the eating". We therefore regularly and rigorously burn test all of the products that we produce to ensure they really do work as they should where it matters, in the consumers' fireplace.

We care about the future of the trade, and do not subscribe to the activities of some of our competitors that distribute sub-standard coal products (for short term gain), that will not provide long term customer satisfaction.
